Panasonic TX-32LXD700 Review

Reviewed: 25 March 2007

Performance

First impressions indicate that the TX32LXD700 like its younger brother the TX32LXD70, is a hugely accomplished screen. With High Definition sources colours are the richest we have ever seen on a 32in LCD, with a sharpness and vibrancy that is simply unmatched on any comparable flat panel. Colours are deeper and more natural than anything the other major manufacturers have to offer.

The display of Standard Definition sources is class-leading, and will overcome many consumers reservations about flat screens in this respect We had to blink and re-focus when looking at SD content on the TX32LXD700 for the first time, not quite believing that we weren't looking at a high definition picture. You need to get really up close to the screen before detecting any blurriness, video noise or motion smearing.

The improved 100hz refresh rate looks like it has a big impact on this screen. Fast panning, especially the type seen on detailed action movies or sports coverage is remarkably free of motion blur or smearing. Inconsistencies are still visible, with a tendency for loss of focus the most notable, but the TX32LXD700 is nevertheless a leap forward for LCD motion handling capabilities.

Sonically the TX32LXD700 is a step up from the rest of the new TX series, with V-Audio Surround - Smart Sound Speaker System and SRS Trusurround XT. First impressions with the sonic ability of the TX32LXD700 are that it is somewhere between its younger brothers and a full home cinema speaker set-up. Its sound performance is incredible when you appreciate that those two little speakers (10w + 10w) on each side of the screen are doing most of the work. Bass response and clarity of dialog are streets ahead of standard set-ups and the Pseudo home cinema experience is very convincing.

Conclusion

The TX-32LXD700 is not revolutionary, but it is enough of a leap forward to make it the current leader of the pack. The TX32LXD700 is the best 32in LCD on the market at the moment. HD and SD pictures are the best out there, and you get a credible home cinema sound experience with SRS Trusurround XT on board.
