Sony Bravia Series Information

Sony Bravia 'S' 'V' 'W and 'X' Series

All of the current Sony Bravia LCD TVs share technology that was specifically designed for LCD screens. Each of the Bravia Series models however differ in the degree to which this technology has been implemented.

Bravia S Series

The S series Bravia is Sony's entry level model, but still shares the same core Bravia Engine of the rest of the range.

Like other Bravia models it also shares Super Vertical Pattern Alignment (SPVA), designed to allow much greater picture integrity over a wider viewing angle.

Bravia V Series

The V series Bravia is a step above the S and as such it gains something called Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) Technology, which has been designed for better all-round colour reproduction.

There are new V-Series models due out soon, the V2500 series. These would seem to be mainly the same as the V2000 versions, with one important change in that they have 2 HDMI inputs instead of only 1.

Bravia W Series

These come in 40 and 46in sizes are Full HD 1920x1080p (p - progressive rather than i - interlaced) with 2 HDMI inputs.

This full 'HD' configuration should perform better with 1080i sources such as sky or ntl and 1080p sources such as Sonys own Playstation 3 as the screen matches these sources pixel for pixel rather than having to scale them to a lower resolution.

The W series has enhanced connectivity with 2 HDMI, 2 component video input and 3 Scarts.

Bravia X Series

These are the Sony flagship LCDs and have the enhanced Bravia EX Engine. The EX Bravia Engine has been designed specifically for the X series full 'HD' resolution.

Like the W series, the X series has 2 HDMI, 2 component video inputs and 3 scarts.
