The subscription based delivery and on line movie provider Lovefilm has struck a deal with MGM studios to make the legendary Hollywood studio's films available to its customers.

A back catalogue stretching back some 85 years will give Lovefilm subscribers access to classics such as The Graduate, Tarzan, The Philadelphia story and Thelma & Louise.

Lovefilm said that their customers would now be able to enjoy around 4100 MGM titles. Newer movies such as 'Quantum of solace' would be available on a pay per view basis while older films would be added to subscription packages.

Lovefilm has established itself as one of the biggest film subscription services in Europe, originally delivering DVDs in the post. Consumers can now access Lovefilm on line with a number of 'internet ready' devices including TVs and Blu-ray players offering the added convenience of direct streaming.

With more and more consumers accessing on line services for their TV and Movie fix, these sort of tie ups are becoming more an more important. BT announced yesterday that it had signed a deal with Disney's ABC TV service to make available a number of hit US shows including Desperate Housewives and Lost.
