At the Star Wars Celebration V convention in Orlando this weekend, George Lucas confirmed that a box set of all six Star Wars films will arrive in full Blu-ray glory next Autumn.

A clearly delighted Lucas took to the stage with original cast members Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher announcing that "Blu-ray is the absolute best way to experience Star Wars at home" adding: "The films have never looked or sounded better".

Lucas indicated that there would be a significant amount of deleted footage from the Original Trilogy included in the box set. At the convention he introduced a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi showing Luke Skywalker building his new lightsaber before heading off to Jabba's palace.

Purists however, will be disappointed to learn that the Blu-ray versions of the original Star Wars trilogy will feature the Special Edition versions. Apparently, the poor quality of the original release would have compromised the Blu-ray versions.

Qualifying the decision to go with the Special Edition versions, Lucas commented: "'You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally. It's a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred the upgraded version".

For most Star Wars fans however, simply being able to view the whole series in High Definition will be enough to keep them going through the cold Winter months ahead.
