ITV are planning to introduce paid for High Definition versions of ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 along with a brand new stand alone subscription channel.

The paid for strategy would be introduced via Sky and would see ITV channels added to some of the satellite broadcasters subscription TV packages.

A new stand alone channel would be designed to broadcast shows such as the X factor and even Coronation Street via the pay to view model.

The moves by ITV represent the re-stoking of an on line strategy which would allow them to "tap into much larger, growing and less volatile subscription revenues"

ITV are also considering the purchase of Virgin Media's 50% share of UKTV as an international showcase for ITV programmes.

Mathew Horsman, from Mediatique consultancy commented: "An exclusive HD deal with BSkyB for ITV’s digital channels makes good sense, at least on a two or three year basis and would provide single-digit millions in revenue for ITV".
