Replacing the outgoing G10 plasma series, the Panasonic G20 arrives in the UK as the first TV with a built-in Freeview HD tuner along with elements of Pioneer's legendary 'Kuro' plasma technology.
Panasonic has made much of the fact that the G20 inherits, via a technology sharing agreement, some of the elements used to create the now legendary Pioneer 'Kuro' plasma TV's. The new screens arrive as the 13g Panasonic plasmas featuring 2nd generation (G2) NeoPDP technology.
Potential buyers are just as likely to be interested in other improvements over the outgoing model however, which include a built-in Freeview HD DVB-T2 tuner, THX certification and more VIERA CAST functionalities including Skype and Blockbuster movie streaming.
The G20 is Wi-fi ready, the extra functionality available via an optional dongle. There are now 2 USB ports for recording and playback of music and video files or viewing still photos.
The Freeview HD rollout in the UK has already started, with the Granada region benefiting from the upgrade late 2009. The availability of Freeview HD services will progress in line with the conversion from analogue to digital. High Definition channels including BBC1, ITV1 and CH4 will become available.
Although many of us will be able to watch the 2010 World Cup in glorious High Definition, Freeview HD won't be available in all UK regions. Check the Freeview website to see the timetable for your region.
