With a broad range of affordable performance machines, it has never been a better time to invest in the Blu-ray High Definition format.

Slow, clunky and expensive when first launched, Blu-ray has now come into its own. Big investment by the major manufacturers has seen the arrival of a range of players to suit all budgets.

You can now expect excellent all round performance from sub £300 machines. Although still relatively expensive, you can even get your hands on Blu-ray players with recording capability.

Up until recently the object of some scepticism, the Blu-ray Profile 2.0 (also known as BD Live) has increased local storage capacity from 256MB to 1GB with an Ethernet connection being a mandatory feature. These latest players can access bonus content associated with a particular disc from the internet.

The Blu-ray players we have chosen represent what we at HDTVorg consider to be the best combination of performance and price.

The choice of audio visual equipment is a very subjective and personal choice. Before you buy, we strongly recommend that you compare a short list of players alongside each other. Any retailer worth their salt will go out of their way to help.
