LG are claiming that their own TruMotion implementation of 200Hz processing on the SL8000 series LCD TV's offers an improvement over rival manufacturers systems.

Any TV which offers anything over and above the 50fps (frames per second) or 50Hz refresh rate from a PAL signal is using a system to digitally 'produce' those extra frames. These new frames are inserted between the 'real' ones to produce the increase in refresh rate.

While different manufacturers have their own similar implementations of the technology, LG say they have gone one better with their TruMotion 200Hz system.

LG say that: "LG's TruMotion 200Hz employs a different approach involving frame insertions plus scanning backlight technologies. By flashing on and off, the backlight produces actual black frames between true and inserted frames therefore reducing motion blur, increasing sharpness and improving contrast levels in dark scenes".

Elsewhere there is an innovative wireless Bluetooth arrangement for using headphones with the TV or playing MP3 tracks off your mobile through the screen. There are four HDMI sockets along with a USB socket that plays high-definition DivX video, WMV, MP3 and JPEG files.

Picture processing comes courtesy of LG's well regarded XD Engine system, and a Real Cinema provides authentic 1080p/24p Blu-ray playback.

Wrapping all of this up is a rather svelte 50mm deep high gloss bezel with Seamless design which introduces a single sheet of glass covering the whole front of the screen. The SL8000 is available in 32in, 37in, 42in and 47in sizes.
