LG LED TV's set to challenge Samsung's dominance

LG SL9000

Aiming to claw back some of the LED sales enjoyed by their Korean rival Samsung, LG have introduced their own range of impressively slim LED TV's.

The visually stunning SL9000 uses a SEAMLESS ™ Design with a single sheet of glass covering the entire front area of the panel. With a depth of just 2.9mm the overall effect is just as stunning as Samsung's range of ultra slim LED TV's.

Available in 42in and 47in sizes, the SL9000 comes with an anti-glare Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel along with 100Hz processing. Bluetooth is on hand to connect devices such as wireless headphones, or playing back music or movies from suitably equipped multimedia devices.

Seeing the potential in LED earlier than any other manufacturer, Samsung have captured around 90% of LED TV sales. With demand for LED TV's set to mushroom to around 90m units by 2013 (39% of the total market), manufacturers can't afford to ignore a potential sales bonanza.

LG have ambitious plans for their LED division, aiming to sell 7.5m LED TV's in 2010, up from 400,000 this year. They are planning to launch more LED backlit LCD models in 2010, including two direct-type backlighting lines and two to three edge-type backlighting lines, with screen sizes ranging from 32in to 60in.

Whether or not LG's new LED TV's can significantly chip away at Samsung's market dominance in this area remains to be seen. If it was a talent contest on looks alone, they would stand a pretty good chance.
