Via an Apple store application, iPhone and iTouch users can now access live sport and other programmes via Wi-Fi, courtesy of Sky.

The mobile TV application gives iPhone owners the option to stream live TV via a Wi-Fi connection. Channels available at launch include the Sky Sports portfolio, Sky Sports News, ESPN, At the Races and Sky News. Users will need to pay a £6 a month subscription charge for the sports and news package.

Although various services require users to take out a subscription, the application is free to download regardless of which phone network applies.

In conjunction with the launch of the service, mobile operator O2 is giving its iPhone subscribers three months' free subscription to Sky Mobile TV.

The application a will allow users to access live sporting events on the move, including Barclays premiership football matches, various premiership rugby games, cricket and golf.

David Gibbs, Sky's mobile general manager, commented: "Our new Sky Mobile TV app combines the demand for great live TV on the move with the high quality viewing experience offered by iPhone and iPod touch,".
