It is worth remembering that LED TV's have not replaced LCD technology. LED's (light emitting diodes) have been integrated into LCD panels, replacing the traditional CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps) backlight to provide more precise picture performance.

LED technology has actually been around since the early part of the 19th Century, gaining a certain notoriety in the 70s with the arrival of bright red lit LED watches.
