Aiming to take Samsung head on with their own range of affordable LCD TV's with LED backlighting, Sharp have introduced their LE600 range into the UK.
Despite being billed as an introduction to LED TV, Sharp's LE600 features a more sophisticated 'local dimming' implementation of the technology where individual LEDs cover the whole of the screen rather than being positioned along the panel edge. Although the LE600 doesn't go quite as far with LED technology as Sharp's cutting edge XS1E (RGB arrays) this is understandable for the price. A variation on the LE600's locally dimmed LED TV's with white LEDs, introduced RGB arrays. RGB LED's use red green and blue to produce an expanded colour gamut. The combined light output from red, green and blue LEDs also produces a more pure white light than is possible with a single white light LED setup.
The LE600 also features Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolutions along with Sharp's "X-Gen Panel" which introduces "Mega Contrast" and "Brilliant colour Processor" technology. The both technologies combine to deliver deep blacks and more vivid colours.
The LE600 is available in 32in, 40in and 46in sizes. The LE600 is joined in the UK by Sharp's LE700 series which adds a 52in model. The LE700 also gets 100Hz processing, an extra HDMI (4) a USB port along with a faster 6ms screen response compared to the 4ms enjoyed by the LE600.
