Sony introduce Freesat enabled TV's
Tuesday, 08 September 2009 10:20 UK

Sony have introduced their Bravia W5810 and Z5800 ranges which both have integrated Freesat tuners for access to the free-to-air satellite service.

Freesat is a free (no subscription) digital TV satellite service which offers over 140 digital TV and radio channels, including BBC HD and ITV HD. The service was launched on 6th May 2008 as a joint venture between the BBC and ITV. The service requires users to install a satellite dish to gain access.

The W5810 and Z5800 both feature Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution screens, 24p True Cinema modes, 4 HDMI inputs and 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The W5810 comes with 100Hz processing while the Z5800 gets the 200Hz version of Sony's Motion Flow system.

True to recent form, the new TV's have a number of energy-saving features. Screen brightness is reduced depending on ambient light levels, while the 'Idle TV' mode consumes 25-30% less energy than previous comparable models.

Both of Sony's new Freesat enabled ranges feature 40in, 46in and 52in models while the W5810 adds a 32in and 37in.

We expect the W5810 and Z5800 to arrive in the UK this Autumn. No prices are available as yet.
