Friday, 04 September 2009 10:10 UK

The Dutch electronics giant Philips has introduced the latest incarnation of their innovative 'Aurea' technology, which now incorporates LED backlighting in the soon to be released 40PFL9904H.

Philips' Aurea technology has given us LCD TVs with a luminous bezel which changes colour depending on the current on screen action. Philips describes the effect as "bringing light and color to life in an unparalleled, highly visual and immersive fashion, drawing the audience into the full emotional experience".

The latest incarnation of Aurea, Aurea 3 introduces a seamless transition between the screen and the Ambilight Active Frame. The panel also includes an implementation of the Philips edge based LED lighting, with 250 LEDs.

A great deal of effort has been directed towards making the technology more compact. The 40PFL9904H has a bezel that is just 8mm deep.

Elsewhere you get the latest incarnation of Philips’ Perfect Pixel HD Engine, 100Hz motion processing, Net TV with built-in Wi-Fi, along with four HDMI inputs.
