In recognition of its 40th anniversary, the film version of Woodstock, the legendary 60s pop concert, has been digitally re-mastered for Blu-ray.

The rights to the film are owned by Warner Brothers and as part of the re-mastering process they have uncovered around 10 hours of new material. Around two hours of this new material includes original footage of Jimi Hendrix's performance at the festival.

The original film of Woodstock was released in 1970 and edited by a young (28 year old) Martin Scorsese. The festival was actually held in 'Bethel' about 40 miles from the New York Town state of Woodstock.

From conceiving the idea, to finding the old footage, transferring and restoring it has taken around two and a half years. The 40 year old reels from the original concert were processed through a new analogue to digital converter, the BURL B2 Bomber.

While many will argue that there can be nothing like actually being there, the HD digitally re-mastered version of Woodstock must surely be the next best thing. The 40th anniversary edition of Woodstock is available now on a two disc blu-ray (£23) and four disc DVD (£20).
