With a unique filtering system, JVC's GD-463D10 has the potential to greatly simplify the process of bringing 3D images to the screen.
The 46in Full HD panel, rather than relying on two separate images for a 3D effect, achieves apparent depth by simultaneously displaying left and right eye images.
Unfortunately, the system still requires the use of glasses - in this case polarizing 'Xpol' filter glasses. By integrating a polar filter onto each line of the incoming video signal, the Xpol filtering method allows the right eye and left eye to see different images, creating the illusion of depth.
Although the GD-463D10 will be used initially for movie production purposes, JVC have not ruled out its use as a mainstream consumer 3D product. Before that happens, JVC will have to significantly reduce the ¥700,000 ($6,978) price tag.
