Capitalizing on its success on other platforms and a growing trend towards watching TV at home, Freeview plan to add iPlayer functionality to their set top boxes by the end of the year.
So keen were the people at Freeview to add iPlayer, their Managing Director, Ilse Howling, recently announced that plans to rollout the BBC's on-demand service were being brought forward. Isle Howling added: "Overall Freeview is bucking the trend of the recession. People are cutting back on certain spending, but not on television."
Since its launch on Christmas Day 2007, users of iPlayer have watched some or all of the BBC's programmes 250 million times. With its continued expansion (iPlayer has recently added HD content) iPlayer usage is likely to accelerate further - a move that is likely to further ruffle ISP (Internet Service Providers) feathers who have already complained about the pressure of iPlayer downloads on internet bandwidth.
