Live TV on your mobile from the BBC
Mobile live BBC TV

The BBC look set to be the first broadcaster to launch a Live TV service for mobile users, which will enable viewers with a compatible phone to watch programmes over a wi-fi connection.

Initially the new service will broadcast channels such as BBC One, BBC Four, CBeebies and BBC News. The BBC will add more channels to the service in time although due to broadcast rights restrictions, live sporting events are unlikely to form part of the schedule.

For viewers with a compatible handset the Live TV service can be viewed without the need for any programme installations, with a BBC spokesperson stating: "There's no need to download or install anything – just click and go".

Although the BBC have indicated that the service is available on a wide range of Wi-Fi enabled handsets, it appears as though only a few Nokia N Series phones and the T-Mobile G1, are currently compatible with the service. It does not currently work on the iPhone or iPod touch although the BBC have indicated that they will quickly expand the number of compatible phones when the service goes live.
