Samsung have revealed an upscaling technology which will be directly integrated into some of their mid and high end LCD TV's.
Although very few technical details are known at this time, Samsung have made a huge financial commitment to developing their own upscaling chip. Samsung's DVD upscalers currently use third party chips to perform the upscaling magic.
Essentially, the new upscaling chip will be able to determine the original resolution of any source material. Having determined the source material's format, the new chip will convert it back to its original resolution and then upscale to match the screen.
The new upscaling technology from Samsung follows hot on the heals of Toshiba's offerings in this area. Toshiba have already integrated upscaling technology into their ZV LCD TV's.
