Samsung LE37A616 Review

Samsung now have three variations on what is essentially one model; the LE37A656, LE37A686 and LE37A616. The LE37A656 and LE37A686 models are the same apart from cosmetic differences while the LE37A616 loses a single HDMI input bringing the total to 3 and has the 'Clear Panel' rather than Samsung's 'Ultra Clear Panel'. While the 'Crystal Design' process is retained, on the A616 it is a deeper shade, described as 'Crystal Black'.

The reasoning behind 'Clear Panel' replacing the 'Ultra Clear Panel' of the A656/686 goes further than a simple reduction in the cost of components. While 'Ultra Clear Panel' has built a reputation for 'bringing out' a deeper black level performance, the tangible benefits seem to be at their best in darker surroundings. In a room with more ambient light some consumers feel that the glossy finish intrudes on the viewing experience. Samsung have responded with the addition of 'Clear Panel' on the A616 which has more of a matte effect. Of course, these sort of things are very subjective and ideally you would want to compare screens side by side.
