Pioneer confirms it will stop Plasma production

In what has become a sad day for flat panel TV enthusiasts, Pioneer has announced that it is to withdraw from the Plasma and LCD TV business by March 2010.

Long recognized as one of the finest flat screen manufacturers, Pioneer has indicated that it can no longer compete with rival manufacturers, many of whom produce TV's in far greater volumes.

The news should not put off those of you who are considering buying a Pioneer TV at this time with Jim Catcheside, Product Manager for Home Business Division at Pioneer GB stating that: "Warranties will be unaffected and the products fully supported by Pioneer, from spares to software and support - engineering support will be maintained at Pioneer."

The announcement does not mean that Pioneer will be going out of business. Plasma screens only accounts for around 14% of the group's activities and they will continue to position themselves as a high end audio visual manufacturer.

Pioneer will continue to sell its 50in PDP-LX5090 and 60in PDP-LX6090 plasmas along with the 50in KRP-500A and 60in KRP-600A screens although it is not clear at this time whether production will continue until March 2010.
