iPlayer for 6 to 12 year olds

The BBC has launched a children's version of its iPlayer TV catch-up sevice designed for six to twelve year olds.

Children can now access iPlayer through the corporation's CBBC website and view a selection of programmes up to a week after the original broadcast date. Content for youngsters is now specifically sectioned for safe children's viewing as well as convenience.

The move by the BBC follows increasing numbers of requests for children's programmes through its main iPlayer site. The iPlayer section of the CBBC website was designed by a team comprising children's interactive experts from BBC Vision and video-on-demand specialists from the Future Media and Technology division of the BBC.

Controller of BBC Children, Richard Deverell, said: "The iPlayer for CBBC is central to fulfilling our ambitions for CBBC as it enables us to provide programmes for children whenever they want to see them - not just when we choose to schedule them.
