Toshiba ZV LCD upscales SD to HD

Rather than retiring to lick their wounds after the demise of their High Definition DVD format, Toshiba have been working on a technology which upscales Standard Definition to HD; the fruits of which come in the shape of their Regza ZV LCD TV.

Toshiba's proprietary 'Resolution +' upscaling technology uses a cell processor algorithm to provide in their own words: "near-HD levels of clarity" from a standard-definition audio visual source.

Toshiba's UK TV product manager Andrew Line added: "with Resolution + technology we're able to offer consumers the ability to instantly upgrade whatever it is they might choose to watch – broadcast TV, DVD or whatever – to near high-definition quality".

The ZV TV's will be available in 42in and 46in screen sizes, and as well as upsacling technology, will feature Toshiba's Active Vision M100 HD 100Hz picture processing, a 30,000:1 contrast ratio, Full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution, 10-bit colour processing and support for 24fps (frames per second).

The ZV LCD TV's from Toshiba will be available in the UK early this December, the 42in and 46in screens priced at £900 and £1200 respectively.
