Disney animation goes platinum with Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE) has announced the release of five titles as part of their Platinum Collection of animated features to be released on DVD and for the first time ever on Blu-ray.

Disney's 'platinum' collection were originally the ten best selling VHS titles over the period of a year. Updated for the digital age, the release of these classic animated films has seen the arrival of 'Sleeping Beauty' which has been given a thorough restoration and a new 7.1 soundtrack.

'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,' (Disney's first ever animated feature film, 1937) 'Fantasia,' 'Fantasia 2000,' 'Pinocchio' and the Oscar-nominated 'Beauty and the Beast.' are all due for release as additions to the platinum collection. Many of you will be disappointed however to hear that these releases will be staggered over a period of years through to 2010.

The new titles will be available for a limited time only, in new multi-disc sets along with rarely seen footage and a number of new bonus features. They are initially available in the US but we are hoping that they will wind their way over hear to the UK some time soon.
