Nikon D90
Nikon D90 offers video recording
Camera | Monday 15th Sept 2008
The Nikon D90 is the first digital SLR camera to sport a video recording function along with HDMI output. Video is shot at a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, JPEG at 24fps.
The D90 features a 12.3-megapixel 23.6x15.8mm CMOS sensor which Nikon claims produces comparable quality to their high end D300. The D90 actually shares the same ultra-high-resolution, high angle 920k-dot 3.0-inch LCD monitor as the D300.
A Scene Recognition system that has proved popular on the D3 and D300 uses a special 420-pivel RGB sensor to process scene and colour information optimising for focus, exposure and white balance just before the shutter is released. The D90 comes equipped with Live View, contrast-detect AF and a dust removal system.
The D90 has been designed to appeal to a broad audience from those who are stepping up from compact cameras to serious amateur photographers. The broad range of controls reflects Nikon's positioning of the D90 as a serious camera while touches such as an improved user interface will appeal to the less confident user.
The D90 will be in UK stores late September priced at around £699.99 for the body-only or approx £849.99 with the new 18-105mm F/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens.
