PlayTV transforms Sony's PS3 games console into a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and dual high-definition TV tuner. Essentially PlayTV allows you watch and record Freeview channels through your PS3.
PlayTV is the latest stage in Sony's pledge to turn the PS3 into a home entertainment hub. Programmes that you record using the new console can be streamed to your PlayStation Portable (PSP) over a wireless Internet connection or transferred permanently to this device via a USB cable for mobile viewing.
Available in the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany, Sony’s Phil Harrison said that PlayTV "isn’t coming to the United States anytime soon because it does not have terrestrial digital television".
With the twin tuners you can watch live TV while recording from another channel as well as pausing live TV. Sony's PlayTV sports a very pretty 7 day Electronic Programming Guide which displays a grid of channels alongside programme information. At the moment there is no support for cable or satellite channels.
