The BBC has confirmed plans to make its entire back catalogue of programmes available on-line.
Every single programme over a period of 81 years of broadcasting will become available, with a number of possible platforms under consideration.
The programme archive may become available as part of the BBC's iPlayer service, through their commercial platform Kangaroo, via an on-demand service being developed with ITV/Channel 4, or through a completely new online archive.
The project was announced by the director of BBC Vision Jana Bennett at the Banff television festival in Canada. The new initiative follows hot on the heals of the BBC's successful iPlayer service which has already seen 90 million programme streams.
