Virgin media are planning to make the BBC iPlayer on-demand TV service available through their set-top boxes this April.
The BBC iPlayer allows users to watch programs from the past seven days free of charge by playing them direct on the BBC iPlayer website or downloading them to their computer.
With Virgin struggling to match the increase in subscriber numbers enjoyed by Sky (61,000 compared to Sky's 145,000 for the previous quarter), the cable operator hope the exclusive launch will begin to redress this balance. Introduced earlier this year, more than 17 million programs have been viewed on the BBC iPlayer, and according to the BBC more than 2.2 million viewers used the service in January alone.
The great advantage of Virgin's plan to introduce the iPlayer to its cable customers is that it allows those customers access to extra content directly through that contents natural home, the TV.
