As a direct result of the recent Blu-ray victory in the High definition DVD format war, Microsoft have announced that they will be reducing the price of their Xbox 360 games console by up to £50 this Friday in the UK.
The price cut is likely to see the 'Arcade' version of the Xbox 360 retail for £159.99 which will undercut Sony's PS3 by £100 and even come in at around £20 cheaper than the Nintendo Wii which was such a success this Christmas.
It has been rumoured that in light of Blu-ray emerging as the dominant high definition DVD format Microsoft are planning to add a Blu-ray drive to the Xbox 360, although we cannot confirm or deny this at present. What is certain is that Microsoft's move is further confirmation, as if we needed it, of the demise of HD DVD.
