Becoming the UK's first terrestrial analogue TV station to launch a full-schedule HD channel, Channel 4 will launch a high definition service through Sky's digital network from this December.
Initially the HD service from Channel 4 will offer a selection of programmes rather than the complete schedule. Channel 4's director of new business, Rod Henwood said "The launch Channel 4 HD represents an early, cost efficient entry into a valuable, emerging market and an important enhancement to the service offered to the rapidly increasing number of HD viewers"
Sky plans to make the Channel 4 High Definition channel free to subscribers who already have a Sky HD box.
Managing Director of BSkyB (Sky), Brian Sullivan, added: "High definition is transforming the TV experience and customers are responding in record numbers to the fundamental improvement in quality and sound quality. We want our customers to enjoy access to the widest choice of HD programmes so we're extremely excited about the launch of Channel 4 HD. Be it sports, movies, documentaries or entertainment, Sky HD customers can now access the richest selection of content in HD."
