BD-HP20S Blu-ray player from Sharp
Sharp BD-HP20S

Joining the drive towards more affordable Blu-ray players, Sharp are planning to introduce the BD-HP20S across Europe this autumn, their first Blu-ray player outside of Japan.

With 1080p support for BD discs, the BD-HP20S also upscales your existing standard DVD's to this format. In addition the BD-HP20S offers support for HD sound formats with 5.1 output, HDMI 1.3 and playback of DVD-R, CD-R, DVD-RW and CD-RW discs.

In what is becoming a must have feature for HD players and TV's the BD-HP20S offers support for the 24p progressive scan process. Movies are typically shot at 24 frames per second (fps), but without 24p support they are played on your TV at 25 fps (PAL TV standard).

Those of you who suffered the frustration of High Definition players taking over a minute to load will be pleasantly surprised to discover a "Quick Start" function on the BD-HP20S. Sharp has promised a load time of less than ten seconds.

AQUOS LINK technology facilitates seamless operation between the Blu-ray player and AQUOS LCD TVs, while HDMI-connected products can be controlled through the AQUOS screen with a single TV remote.

Expect the BD-HP20S to appear across Europe this autumn, priced somewhere very close to Sony's current BDP-S1 Blu-ray player.
