LG BH200 Dual format HD player
LG BH200

Just over six months ago, LG's original BH100 'multi-blu' dual High Definition DVD player offered the promise of a solution to the HD format war, but in reality the high price and limited features made it something of a white elephant. Addressing the problems of its innovative but flawed BH100, LG has returned with the new and improved BH200.

As well as playing both HD-DVD and Blu-ray and upscaling standard format DVDs, BD-Java and HDi support have been introduced which enables support for the interactive elements of each format eliminating a major gripe with the BH100.

With connectivity in the shape of HDMI 1.3 and ethernet ports, the BH200 also supports 1080p playback at 60Hz. There is now full support for next generation audio formats such as Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD. Early indications are that the BH200 loads and starts Blu-ray or HD DVD discs in around 30 seconds which is at least a match for most single format players.

The BH200 will be available in the US this October with an expected price tag of around $1000. Expect it on these shores later in the year with a much more affordable price tag than the £9000 or so for the original BH100.
