Sony X3000 flagship LCD

Adding a number of innovative technologies as well as a subtle dash of colour, the Sony BRAVIA X3500/X3000-Series is due to replace the existing flagship X2000 series in the UK this autumn. Available in 40in, 46in, 52in and leviathan 70in sizes, the new range is the first to feature 1080p Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080p) allied to Sony’s Motionflow +100Hz technology.

Motionflow +100Hz technology doubles the number of frames shown on previous LCD TV's from 50 to 100 by interpolating an extra frame in between each source frame. The 'D' series (32in and 40in) are the only UK LCD TV's currently available with this feature.

With 3 HDMI inputs (2 back, 1 side), a dynamic contrast of 25,000:1 with the 70in model and 18,000:1 on the other models the X-Series also features PhotoTV HD, which Sony claims "brings the look of actual printed photography to the set" with your digital photos.

All of the X-Series family now incorporate 10-bit signal processing along with a 10-bit LCD panel which produce 1024 shades of gradation between colours compared to the 256 available from normal 8-bit panels.

Pushing the boundaries of colour reproduction, the 70-inch KDL-70X3500 uses Triluminos LED backlighting system to add arrays of red, green and blue LEDs to illuminate the screen rather than the conventional Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL). With a backlight spectrum greater than that of even the best CCFLs, the colour gamut of the set is significantly extended, particularly in the red and green areas of the spectrum.

Along with the new W3000-Series, the X3500/X3000-Series features Sony's x.v.Colour mode which almost doubles the range of colours that can be accurately reproduced and now covering almost 100 percent of natural colours. A technology which closely matches the natural characteristics of the human eye, x.v.Colour creates more vivid, authentic reds, blues and greens beyond the limitations of the conventional sRGB colour space.

With their customary dash of stylistic panache, Sony are offering the X3000-series in a variety of subtle pastel-like colours including Pale Gold, Deep Mauve, Light Beige, and Gunmetal Grey. The X3500-Series meanwhile is available in gunmetal grey only.

Likely to be available in the UK this November prices are set to be roughly in line with the existing X2000 Series ...
