Continuing a growing trend amongst flat panel TV manufacturers to produce screens with recording capabilities, Hitachi are introducing two new plasma screens with built-in 250GB Hard Drives.
There is no confirmation yet as to whether the 50in P50XR01 and 60in P60XR01 X-Series panels will sport 'Freeview Playback' certification, but they will certainly have the capability to pause and rewind live TV along the lines of Sky+.
With 3 HDMI connections (1.3) and twin digital tuners (for viewing one channel and recording another at the same time) along with SD card slot and USB ports, the X series will be among the best equipped plasma screens when they are launched later this year.
The picture processing core of the the new X series is Hitachi's acclaimed Picture Master HD Processing which has been designed to reduce video 'noise', improve colour saturations, detailing and colour tone.
New for the X Series is 'Movie FRC' Hitachi's proprietary frame rate conversion technology. Designed primarily to reduce image judder during horizontal panning Movie FRC introduces additional frames (the technology actually makes a best judgment) to smooth out the picture. The two new plasmas from Hitachi also have the ability to accept the 1080p 24 format available from some Blu-ray and HD DVD high definition players.
More details of pricing etc will be made available towards the end of the year when Hitachi plan to release the X series in the UK.
