LG Freeview Playback screens
LG Time Machine

Equipped with built-in 160GB hard drives, LG's new LT75 'Time machine' series of LCD TV's will be the first in the UK with PVR (Personal Video Recorder) capabilities, namely Freeview Playback.

Freeview Playback has been with us for a while, most notably with Sky+, and relies on a hard disk to record programmes as you watch them or for future viewing. The ability to 'pause' live TV (to take a telephone call for example) is one of the more familiar features allowing you to resume a TV programme from where you left it even though it is still being broadcast.

In fact, the LT75 series has been granted Group 2 certification by the Freeview Board, which not only allows you to record all of the episodes in a series, but will also automatically compensate for any over running of the schedules and record the programmes exactly how you intended.

The new functionality will be added to the 32in , 37in and 42in LT75 LCD panels as well as LG's forthcoming 42in and 50in PT85 plasma screens.

With twin tuners you will be able to watch one channel while recording another with both the LT75 and PT85 series. The 80GB hard drive will hold around 80 hours of programming.

LG are steadily shrugging off their cheap and cheerful image with stylish well equipped and technologically advanced LCD and Plasma screens. The Korean manufacturers latest range of Full HD LCD TV's (LY series) has been well received, and the new Time Machine series looks like it will enhance their growing reputation.

Available some time in October this year there is no word yet on pricing.
