With video capture which offers around six times the detail of existing devices, Hitachi has confirmed that it will launch two Blu-ray camcorders this year. The DZ-BD70 and DZ-BD7H will go on sale in Japan this Autumn and will arrive on these shores early in the new year.
The DZ-BD70 records to 8cm Blu-ray discs only, while the DZ-BD7H also has a built in 30Gb Hard Disc which is capable of capturing 4 hours of high-definition video (1920 x 1080i). The 8cm Blu-ray discs have a capacity (7.5GB) five time that of 8cm DVDs (1.4GB), which captures a full hour of high definition footage per disc.
Far from bolting on a blu-ray unit to existing kit, Hitachi has designed every major element of these new camcorders to be optimized for Full HD. An 18-sided multicoated lens with 12 element in 9-group is specifically for Hitachi’s blu-ray camcorders and designed to reduce ghosting and flaring with class leading image quality.
Both the DZ-BD70 and DZ-BD7H models sport a 5.3-megapixel sensor with 10x optical zoom lens capable of delivering the equivalent of 2.07 megapixels for video and 4.32 megapixels for still shots.
When they go on sale in Japan this autumn, the DZ-BD70 and DZ-BD7H will be priced at around £650 and £800 respectively, and expect them to be at least a few hundred pounds more expensive when they arrive in the UK.
