This week Denon have announced an addition to the growing number of stand alone blu-ray players with the planned release of the high end 3800BDCI in the US this autumn. As the first HD player to offer the new 1.1 Blu-ray standard, the 3800 BDCI will offer amongst other things full interactive content.
The release is significant in that the DVD-3800BDCI will be the first Blu-ray high definition player to meet HD DVD on a level playing field. HD DVD currently has an advantage in the HD format arena with its ability to deliver interactive content and online connectivity.
Not only will Denon’s new player offer the new Blu-ray 1.1 standard, it will also deliver 7.1 High Definition sound (DTS HD Lossless Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD and uncompressed PCM)and full 1080p video. Additionally, the DVD-3800BDCI sports a Realta HQV video processor which offers advanced video clean up with the ability to improve even the highest quality inputs.
There are no confirmed plans as yet to offer the DVD-3800 in the UK, but expect it to arrive on these shores early 2008.
If you’re tempted to hang on for the Denon into the new year be warned that at around £1,000 its not going to be cheap and remember that Blu-ray discs do not currently hold the interactive content that this player will make use of.
