Philips shows its green credentials
Philips Green Tick Logo

As part of its EcoDesign initiative, the electronics giant Philips has launched a 'Green Tick' logo which will be an indication of its most environmentally friendly products.

The Green Tick logo will be present on any Philips product that can demonstrate superior energy efficiency than competing products from rival manufacturers.

Tested for levels of energy consumption, packaging, hazardous substances, weight, as well as recyclability, green flagship products have to meet stringent benchmarks in all of these areas. An array of test are designed to establish that products have a much smaller environmental impact than similar products in the same category from other manufacturers.

Philips launched its EcoDesign programme in 1994 with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of its products. Chief executive of Philips Consumer Electronics, Rudy Provoost said "Philips is committed to being a responsible industry leader and helping consumers to find more energy-efficient lifestyles through increasingly advanced products and better information."

Notable products for inclusion in the scheme include the LCD 42PF7621D, named as the European Green TV of the Year 2006/07 by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), and the Philips HTS8100 Cineos Sound Bar Home Theatre, which is an impressive 50% more energy efficient than any of its nearest competitors.
