Affordable HD audio from Onkyo

It may not be a name that you are familiar with, but many of you will have AV equipment manufactured by Onkyo, the Japanese audio visual specialist. If you own a higher end Panasonic TV or a Wii games console, chances are the sound will coming through a set of built-in Onkyo speakers.

Consumers are going to sit up and pay much more attention however now that Onkyo have released what will surely be classed as one of the best value HD audio receivers on the market.

At around £400 the entry level TX-SR605 offers Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio with 7.1 surround sound capability. Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio offer the highest quality home cinema sound available and are increasingly found on HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. In addition, the TX-SR605 sports two HDMI (1.3) inputs.

As a prelude to the launch of their own HD DVD player, higher end offering from Onkyo, the TX-SR875 and TX-NR905 will be able to upscale any video source to 1080p. This combined audio and visual capability make the new receivers a compelling prospect. Priced at around £1,000 and £1,400 respectively, these new receivers will be available towards the end of summer.

All Onkyo receivers support Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) and come in silver or black.
