Sharp LCD goes 100Hz
Sharp RD2E

With its RD2E range, Sharp has joined a growing number of LCD TV manufacturers by offering a series of LCD TV's with 100Hz refresh rates.

A 100Hz refresh rate is designed primarily to improve Standard Definition (SD) performance, which many commentators including ourselves believe is still not quite up to the levels of CRT, especially with Freeview terrestrial sources. 100Hz refresh rates on LCD TV's are closing this gap to the degree where the difference is becoming negligible.

The first two models in its RD2E range, the LC-32RD2E and LC37RD2E are available now, and come with a claimed 10,000:1 contrast ratio and Sharp's acclaimed truD-HD picture processing technology.

Both screens feature a resolution of 1366 x 768 W-XGA with the 32in model retailing for £1,000, and the 37in for around £1,250. Both can be found on the internet for substantially less than the recommended retail price.

We will have to wait until late summer to get our hands on Sharp's highly desirable Full HD XL1 Series featuring 46in and 52in versions, the LC-46XL1E and LC-52XL1E. Both feature 1,920 x 1,080 resolutions and 100Hz screen refresh. No exact release dates or prices as yet.

Meanwhile, Sharp continues to receive high praise for it current Full HD range of LCD TV's, the XD1E series.
