Home Cinema

Having spent restless nights deliberating over which large flat panel screen is going to form the centrepiece of your dedicated home cinema system, someone at work casually drops in the word 'Projector' into the conversation.

Having explained to you that this is nothing to do with the noisy old machine in the boardroom you're confused.

You seem to remember mention of a projector at your local cinema, and you're suddenly intrigued. The fact is that home cinema projectors have been available for some time now, but it is only recently with high quality sub £1,000 models becoming available, that consumers have started to take an interest.

Consumer projectors, with their accompanying screens are similar to the projectors in your local cinema but on a smaller scale. They are generating interest because they are now much more affordable, but primarily because they offer an image size which is between 100in - 300in !

Remember that the largest consumer Plasma screen is around 60in and costs around three or four times that of a good quality projector set-up.

Most electrical retailers will sell you a 'Home Cinema' system for your Plasma or LCD, but a Projector will take you as close to a Home Cinema experience as its possible to get.

Just like flat panel technology there are different flavours, or technologies to consider if you are looking to buy a projectors. The next section will guide you through the different technologies and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each one.
