Design
At first glance, it is obvious that the LC-37GD8E was not designed to match its older Aquos siblings in the beauty and make-up department, but it still manages a classy looking two tone effect. After all, this LCD was not designed to be the last word in technology, but to be one of the best value 37in LCD TV's around.
Features
A screen resolution of 1,366 x 768 guarantees a good showing with either SkyHD or Telewest HDTV services, however, the single HDMI input is an indication that this package is indeed a budget conscious offering.
Lack of dedicated component video inputs confirms that a few compromises have been made to achieve such a competitive price. Routing through the screens VGA input is the only way of producing analogue HD video.
Simultaneous HD and PC feeds are to say the least not going to be this sets forte.
Performance
Normal TV does produce some noise on this set, but its not enough to upset the impression of picture solidity, and the colour holds up well.
There is some detail loss in dark areas on HD as well as normal TV, but in both formats the picture is generally judder free with very little blur.
The LC-37GD8E impresses most with its fabulous colour reproduction, and for a set in this price bracket it is untouchable.
Sound comes from built in speakers which make a reasonable attempt at quality audio through a virtual surround sound system, but lack of base shows up its short comings.
Overall, the Sharp LC-37GD8E offers outstanding value for money. Superb colour and detailing are let down only by slight picture noise and a lack of contrast.
